My car broke down in Brentwood at 9.30 on a Sunday morning. On my mobile phone I dialled 118118 and was given Allied Hire’s number. My first surprise was that there was someone there to answer the phone. We arranged for a hire car to be delivered to my home in Canvey Island and at lunchtime a shiny new VW Golf arrived at my front door.

I am a District Nurse and as I was driving to my client my car was hit in the rear by a van on the A127 near Wickford. I called Allied Hire and 40 minutes later I was driving a hire car away.

I had arranged to pick up a hire van from Allied’s office at 5.00 as the office was about to close. I got caught up in the huge queue behind an accident and rang to say I was going to be delayed – by a long time. I stressed that I would still like to collect the van as I needed it for in important job the next day. The gentleman in the office was very good, telling me not to worry, he would hang on until I arrived. It was 6.15 when I landed, the paperwork was ready for me, with the keys to the van.
